What was michael's Singapore Experience like?

"Singaporeans are very passionate about their jobs. There seems to be a symbiotic relationship between people and country. They give something to the country while working, and yet at the same time, Singapore gives something back to them by giving them the space to pursue their dreams.

The places we have visited have also helped us understand that while Singaporeans are working on their future, they also do not forget their past.

There are just so many opportunities waiting to be explored in Singapore – the food, the culture, the environment which is tropical and refreshing and the architecture."

Michael's visit

Michael's love for food sure brought him to the right place. Little did he expect to launch into a food expedition, trudging through local food haunts such as Amoy Street Food Centre, Maxwell Market and the Chinatown Food Street with well-known Singapore food critic KF Seetoh, the mastermind behind popular TV series Makansutra. Along with his companion, Michelle, the two experienced the diversity of Singapore’s culinary scene, through the traditional “pulled” tea (teh tarik), various sweet treats (kueh-kuehs) and the true-blue Singaporean dish – Hainanese chicken rice.

The couple’s experience in Singapore was topped with a personalised tour of the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore’s answer to the great theatres as the island nation works towards becoming a global city of the arts.

Michael and Michelle, who both have a keen interest in performing arts, had the opportunity to find out more about what makes Singapore’s cultural heart beat through the eyes of J P Nathan, Director of Programming, Esplanade.
